With 2020 behind us, it’s time to focus on the new chapter before us: An opportunity to start afresh and make big changes. But it’s not quite that easy–and truth be told, we’re all still a little mentally bruised after the difficult year we’ve had... and we know you feel it too. So, how do we emerge with minds that are stronger, more strategic, and creative than ever before? Here are our resolutions for not just a happy new year, but a different and better new year.

#1 This doesn’t have to be the “best year everrrr!”

After the losses our businesses have run and the months we’ve spent in lockdown, it’s understandable that we’re all feeling a certain pressure to make 2021 the best one ever. But don’t we all deserve an opportunity to TRULY reset and re-evaluate? So, instead, see this as a year of recovery–a year to think differently about your brand, your strategy and your future.

#2 Don’t just pick up the pieces –build something new

Instead of merely gluing the pieces of your business back together, see this as your opportunity to analyse each shard. Cast away that which isn’t working for your business anymore, and identify the areas where you can rebuild it in a way that’s bigger and better than before. Because let’s be honest: If your business suffered in 2020, why would you rebuild the same model that didn’t work for you before? Now is the time to think “strong” and think different.

#3Know that you don’t have to do this alone

If 2020 taught us anything, it’s that we are stronger together. Yet, we all feel the need to return to our “old habits”. This year we challenge you to set aside your pride and accept that you have your strengths and your weaknesses –just like everybody else. And understand that your weaknesses are someone else’s strengths! So, bring the experts on board to assist you in the areas where you can use some help–like Calypso for marketing and social media, for instance. Nudge-nudge, wink-wink.

#4 Be kind to yourself and everybody else too

“There isn’t a second to waste! The new year is here! Let’s do as much as we can before another lockdown hits!” As we rush into the new year, we often favour good business returns over good relationships. But remember, kindness –to yourself, your clients, your employees and your service providers–doesn’t cost a thing.

“A message of happiness supported by fortitude, the combination of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating is aspirational and gives us hope. We need to feel that everything is going to get brighter –this is essential to the human spirit. "If I could paint everything yellow I really would, it’s one of the reasons why I love eating pineapples too. The colour yellow always makes me feel like I’m eating rays of sunshine, and can I just say 2021 best be one very bright ray of continuous sunshine. As a designer, grey is a gorgeous colour that just makes a design that much more polished and sophisticated, for me it’s better than using a harsh black.”

"Times are changing fast, and it's important for your brand to stay up to date and relevant -but does this mean throwing a "yass kween" into the mix and changing your brand voice? No. While it's important to re-evaluate every so often and make small adjustments to stay with the times, you don't want to alienate your audience. Use language that still feels natural for your brand and stay true to YOU."
