Here’s Why Marketing ISN’T Sales
We often find ourselves in conversations where we need to explain to friends and clients why we are “marketing experts, not salesmen”. If you too are asking yourself, “but really, darling, what’s the difference?” then read on because we’re about to blow your mind.
MARKETING vs SALES
MARKETING is about creating a better sales environment.
SALES is about getting money from a customer.
MARKETING puts the brand first and grows its persona.
SALES puts the customer first and appeals to their needs.
MARKETING is about building brand perception.
SALES is about interaction and closing deals.
MARKETING is about pulling customers towards your brand.
SALES is about pushing products towards your customers.
MARKETING educates customers to influence their buying behaviour.
SALES pushes product and is the physical exchange of money for goods.
MARKETING speaks to a targeted market segment’s needs.
SALES is a one-on-one interaction where products are sold.
MARKETING is a long-term process of building relationships with clients.
SALES is a short-term process of turning a client into a buying customer.
MARKETING is a support function that can eventually lead to sales.
SALES is reliant on effective marketing strategies in the long term.
MARKETING is brand awareness, positioning, loyalty and voice.
SALES is the result of on-going advertising and ad spend.
MARKETING DOESN’T GUARANTEE SALES
A beautifully designed website, social post or brochure won’t automatically increase sales – but it WILL build your brand image. Now it’s up to YOU to leverage that image and bring home the bacon.
Of course, that’s just the tip of the ice berg! If you’d like to hear our full “why marketing isn’t sales” pitch, give us a call because we’d love to meet you and talk your ears off.
