LET'S GET SOCIAL

LET'S GET SOCIAL

Fancy yourself a social (media) butterfly? If your answer is something like “eh…I guess?” or “yes, but I only have 4 followers”, then hang onto your fancy swivel chair, because we’re here to deliver handy hints and tips to help you navigate the confusing world of social media.

The DO’S and DON’TS of #BeingSocial

You’ve got a Facebook page – SUPER! You’ve got a LinkedIn business account – ACES! And you’ve even got an Instagram page – RAD! But now what? When your brand enters the social sphere, there are a few unspoken rules of engagement that need to be followed if you expect to be, well, followed by your target market. Of course, there are a million courses and articles available on the topic, but do you really want to risk drowning in buzzwords? Instead, we’ve got some simple DO’S and DON’TS to help you out.

  • DO engage with your audience – they’re your #fam*! Get to know them!
  • DON’T post all the time. It’s worse than “that friend” who sends hourly food updates of what she ate.

  • DO use hashtags in your posts – they help your posts pop up in searches.
  • DON’T #hashtag #every #word. Legit, no one is EVER going to search for #every.

  • DO share company news. Yes, your followers want to know more about you!
  • DON’T only talk about yourself. Mix it up and keep it interesting, you know?

  • DO use social media to boost your business – so many tools to use and not abuse!
  • DON’T expect instant spikes in your sales. Engagement first, sales second.

  • DO add a personal touch to your posts. Nobody likes talking to a robot.
  • DON’T follow everyone. Just ‘cause they follow you, doesn’t mean you have to follow back.

  • DO encourage staff to like the page or posts, and tell them to tell their friends’ friends!
  • DON’T like your own posts. It’s just not cool, hip, kiff or the “done thing”, you know?

  • DO keep an eye on your competitors, and learn from their YAYS and NAYS.
  • DON’T copy what they’re doing. You don’t want to be “that guy”. Be original.

  • DO contact Calypso to assist you with your social media planning – we’re experts!
  • DON’T do it yourself if you’re not familiar with general social media etiquette.
